Olja Saran is a Supervising Medical Scientist within the Immunology Department at SA Pathology, based at Flinders Medical Centre. She is a proud graduate of the University of South Australia, holding a Bachelor of Biomedical Science / Laboratory Medicine.

Driven by a lifelong fascination with science, Olja pursued studies in medical sciences, which ultimately led her to a career in immunopathology following her clinical placement. With over 20 years of invaluable experience in autoimmunity—including two years specialising in Flow Cytometry—she has played a key role in training new staff members, registrars, and students. Her work includes close collaboration with pathologists, networking with external pathology providers, and contributing to the enhancement of test procedures and the implementation of new techniques and assays. These efforts have significantly improved the quality of testing outcomes for patients.

Olja has also applied her expertise in technical audits and participated in numerous research projects within the Immunology Directorate. She is a strong advocate for the vital work performed by Medical Scientists and continues to champion fair recognition for technical officers.
